Reviews
The boat is very well located. Very close to the city center but....
There was no one to welcome us when we arrived (5pm). The boat itself is ok (the cabins are really really small) but we did not sleep all night because it was very noisy. Some of the passengers had decided to have a party on the boat. The party itself was "quiet" but the participants kept coming in and out of the boat slamming their room doors and talking loudly until 1am. The problem was certainly with the passengers, but why were there no employees on the boat to keep things calm? Moreover, at 1:30 am someone (probably a drunk passenger) started to knock (well hit) on the front door of the boat and shout because he wanted to enter (and didn't know or forgot the code probably). He did this for more than 20 minutes. Then at 4am the passengers who were partying came back from the party and obviously talked loudly in the corridor. The rooms being very badly insulated we hear everything.
To summarize, the main problem comes from badly educated passengers, but the staff should be there to take care of the calm on the boat... And I had the impression that the people who partied were friends with the people in charge of the reception. Even if the price is "low" for an accommodation in the center as we could not sleep all night it is not worth the cost.
Beautiful boat with a very, very nice Host. He was there whenever we needed something, made us breakfast even if we overslept and gave us good advice for our stay at Amsterdam. We'll definitely come back :)
Nice boat with simple lodgings. I think we were possibly in the smallest cabin (room 9) which made for some difficulty when trying to change and move past each other but it did the job as somewhere to sleep. Sadly some residents decided to not adhere to the quiet hours but that didn't take away from a nice stay. Breakfast is included and there's good options. Nice chill out space in the communal area. Location is good and quiet.
We booked this place for our first trip to Amsterdam and we didn't have high expectations but it was awful. The room was smaller than we imagined and very dirty. The duvet was covered in hairs, window cover dirty and dust and dirt pretty much everywhere in the room. We also found a bug on the top bed. In addition, if you want to get any sleep I would not recommend coming here due to noise coming from everywhere and people not having any consideration. Staff is only there for breakfast then no where to be found, additionally the breakfast wasn't great, some sliced meat and cheese that had dried round the edges. Finally, the WiFi doesn't work inside the rooms. We booked for 3 nights but stayed there for only 2 as we had to find another place where we could actually sleep. For 85 euros a night you don't get anything, just a waste of money.
Very different from any other hotel you could find in Amsterdam. It gives you the chance to live fully the Amsterdam experience . Very cozy , clean rooms , hot water available and heater . Amazing view at night especially . The crew is very kind and adorable and ready to help if you need information about the city . In the middle of the city . I have walked all around Amsterdam without using any transportation (only bike for short time) . Available living room all the time (microwave, hair dryer , maps of the city and wifi)
The rooms are really cramped. There's hardly any place to move if you have extra luggage. It's okay if you are only backpacking and need a place to crash. We weren't really impressed with the breakfast. For the money we were paying, the least that could be provided was cooked food, not facilities allowing us to make our own breakfast :/
There was also some confusion regarding the boat location. We were informed that the boat would be moving to a new location but we could sail with them if we reached early. We caught the early train, an uber , made it to the harbour in time only to find out the boat already left ahead of schedule. We had to take another uber to the new location. And after all this running around, we still couldn't check in early and had to freshen up in a nearby cafe toilet.
If you know what you're getting yourself in to, this is an amazing place to stay! A lot of the other reviews seem to have extremely warped expectations of what a boat can feasibly provide - of course there's not going to be loads and loads of space, and it's hardly going to be a "luxury" stay.
If you're looking at MPS Holland for the novelty and "fun" of staying on a boat, then it's certainly the place to book. We were lucky enough to be given the room right at the front of the boat - we booked a double bed, and felt that we had more than enough room as we were only using it as a base from which to explore Amsterdam. The fact that there is a private toilet and shower was a massive plus (again - what is to be expected in a normal hotel should be seen as a bonus on a boat), and the beds were comfy. Despite staying during storm Ciara the room was warm, and although the boat did rock during the night I doubt this would be an issue if not staying during a storm!
Breakfast was very nice - I was a bit confused from previous reviews what it was, but it essentially was a small self service. Bacon, Eggs, Hams, Cheese, Toast, Pancakes, and Cereal are all provided along with a large hot plate on which to cook. You really can help yourself to however much you like - Victor was encouraging us to make sandwiches to take with us for the day!
Location is perfect - 10 mins from the station and maximum 15 mins from Central Amsterdam. Close enough to pop back for a rest in the afternoon before going out again for dinner.
Victor himself is a lovely and welcoming host - very amiable and hardworking.
We will definitely be coming back!
A great cosy place for a different kind of a stay. Though the rooms are tiny, you get each and every facility here. Heating is great and water supply is perfect. Great place to hang out on the deck. Very well located just 10min walk from Centraal.
